FUEL TANK REPAIR AND UPGRADE
Purpose
Utility improvements and general site work at the Edward Hines, Jr. Medical Center in Hines, IL to support the VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization data upgrade. Richard served as the design-builder for the project, working within an active medical campus to refurbish and upgrade existing infrastructure. Scope included replacement of the generator paralleling logic control system, installation of a new 15,000-gallon underground fuel tank with pumps, controls, and cathodic protection, and civil work to support new utilities and systems.
Project Challenges
Active medical facility: All work was performed within an active medical facility, requiring a phased approach coordinated around hospital operations. Infection control measures and work schedules were carefully managed to minimize disruption while completing utility upgrades, site reconstruction, and security improvements across the campus.
Project OUTCOME
Coordinated infrastructure delivery: The project was completed in June 2020 and delivered the required utility, site, and security upgrades to support the EHRM data initiative. Civil work included reconstruction of parking lots and sidewalks, trenching for new ductbanks and utilities, and restoration of asphalt, concrete, landscaping, and site features. Security upgrades included new fencing, gates, active vehicle barriers, and lighting.
