NURSING HOME CARE: COMMUNITY LIVING CENTER
Purpose
Renovation of Wings C and A at the Community Living Center within the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago, IL to expand care capacity for elderly Veterans. The project added space for 12 new beds along with supporting utility, administrative, and public areas including kitchen, dining, den, bathroom, office, and maintenance spaces. Richard completed the renovation of Wing C and a partial renovation of Wing A, installing patient lift systems, nurse call stations, oxygen gas piping, and therapy bathtubs to support round-the-clock and end-of-life care. The work also included installation of a new 50,000 CFM rooftop air handling unit supported by structural steel decking.

Maintaining access: To ensure uninterrupted access to the Community Living Center and surrounding hospital spaces, temporary hallways were constructed to preserve full circulation throughout the project.
Project OUTCOME
Expanded care capacity: The renovated wings were completed in November 2024 and now provide space for 12 additional beds along with upgraded support, utility, and public spaces for elderly Veterans.
