STERILE PROCESSING RENOVATION
PURPOSE
This project sought to modernize and improve the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) space at the Michael E. DeBakey Medical Center, directly supporting the mission of safeguarding community health. By upgrading critical infrastructure, the renovation aimed to enhance patient care and uphold the highest safety standards, aligning with Richard's commitment to advancing healthcare and well-being.
Project Challenges
Renovating the 16,500 SF SPS space required the facility to remain fully operational throughout construction. Richard used its innovative six phase approach to minimize disruption, performing extensive architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety work while maintaining the sterile environment crucial to SPS operations.
Project outcome
Richard completed the multi-phase renovation without interrupting the vital SPS work, ensuring patients at the Veteran Affairs Hospital continued to receive uninterrupted, high-quality care. This project underscores Richard's expertise in healthcare construction, balancing technical challenges with the well-being of patients and staff.
“The work that the Sterile Processing Services department provides is critical to maintaining the safety of the equipment at the Veteran Affairs Hospital. Disruption of that service was not an option for us—proper time management and effective communication strategies were essential to the success of this project.”
