CHEYENNE CLINICAL SPACES
CLIENT: Department of Veteran Affairs
LOCATION: Cheyenne, WY
PROJECT STATUS: In Progress
PURPOSE: The Department of Veterans Affairs in Cheyenne, Wyoming needed to renovate and reconfigure 23,000 square feet of existing clinical, inpatient, and service areas to meet current code and healthcare facility needs. This project is rooted in a mission to restore dignity, privacy, and healing potential to a critical VA facility through thoughtful, patient-centered modernization.
Richard's mission is to upgrade MEP systems including headwalls, fixtures, HVAC, plumbing, electrical panels, and interior finishes while maintaining full hospital operations. The goal is to transform aging healthcare infrastructure into modern, compliant care environments that better serve Veterans' medical needs across multiple departments and service areas.
The renovated facility will provide Veterans in Wyoming and surrounding regions with modernized clinical spaces, improved inpatient areas, and enhanced service environments designed to support both current and future healthcare delivery standards.
CHALLENGE:
Phased Construction Coordination: Performing renovations across 23,000 square feet while maintaining daily hospital operations requires meticulous phasing and coordination to ensure zero disruption to critical patient care services.
Historic Preservation Requirements: Window replacements on the 3rd floor of the 1934 Cowboy Building require careful coordination with the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), balancing modern functionality with historic preservation standards.
Complex MEP System Integration: Upgrading headwalls, fixtures, HVAC, plumbing, electrical panels, and interior finishes across multiple departments requires precise coordination of interconnected building systems.
Multi-Department Scope Management: Coordinating work across Environmental Management Services, Endoscopy, and dispersed administrative and clinical areas throughout the facility demands exceptional project organization and communication.
Major System Shutdowns: Managing major utility and system shutdowns while maintaining hospital operations requires strategic planning and seamless transitions between construction phases.
Code Compliance Modernization: Bringing existing 1934-era infrastructure up to current healthcare facility codes and standards while working within the constraints of the existing building envelope.
SCOPE & APPROACH:
Comprehensive Renovation Strategy: Richard is executing a carefully planned phased renovation approach across four major areas to modernize 23,000 square feet while maintaining full hospital operations.
Historic Preservation Integration: Working closely with Wyoming SHPO to ensure window replacement projects meet both modern healthcare needs and historic preservation requirements.
Advanced MEP Upgrades: Implementing complete mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system upgrades including modern headwalls, fixtures, and building management systems.
Seamless Operational Continuity: Coordinating closely with VA personnel to manage construction phases and ensure uninterrupted patient care throughout the renovation process.
Patient-Centered Design Focus: Prioritizing dignity, privacy, and healing potential in all renovation decisions to create therapeutic environments that support Veteran care.
Multi-Area Coordination: Successfully managing complex logistics across Environmental Management Services, Endoscopy, administrative areas, and clinical spaces within a single integrated project timeline.
